DPS Sharjah Sports Team Tours Srilanka  (2006-2007)

A seven day sports trip to Colombo, Srilanka by 38 students of DPS Sharjah accompanied by five teachers from 11 to 18 March was a real life experience for the students who were for the first time ever on their own away from the protective surveillance of their parents.

Apart from the seven basket ball and cricket matches they played against reputed international schools in Colombo and Kandy which included Prince Wales School, St. Sebastian College, St. Peters College, Bandara Naika College and Trinity college, the students also visited various places of historical and environmental importance.

The seven days trip also taught the students how to be more independent and manage all their routine on their own. They amazingly managed themselves at passport control at immigration or checking in at hotels or when they had to calculate the exchange rates of currencies at shopping malls and got a deal when things looked expensive at Colombo shopping malls.

The contingent management also organized fun programs like magic shows, beach bonfire and other entertainment activities for the students. The team also visited tourist attractions in Kandy, Pinnavale and Colombo especially the elephant orphanage which was a sanctuary for 90 elephants including the oldest one in the continent.
