The scholar badge ceremony for the academic year 2004-2005 for Grades 8, 9, 10 & 11 was held on 21 September, 2005 at the new auditorium in an atmosphere of great jubilation and solemnity.
Addressing the gathering the chief guest, Mr. William J Brien, president American college of Dubai, congratulated all the scholars who scored 80% above this year. He said that it marked an important milestone in their scholastic achievement, as it was the successful culmination of a long journey on the road to learning.
The Guest of Honour Mr. Dinesh Kothari, Pro Vice Chairman, DPS Sharjah, congratulated all the scholar badge holders and appreciated the sincere efforts and commitment shown by the teachers. He said that an additional new block with a capacity to accommodate around 1500 students would be built by the next year.
Welcoming the gathering Mrs. Abha Sahgal, Principal DPS, Sharjah said that the excellent performance of the grade X and XII students has now put DPS, Sharjah in the top brackets among the leading schools in the UAE in a short span of five years. She also thanked the school management for their immense dedication and bold thinking towards quality education.
Mrs. Sahgal said that it is part of the DPS philosophy to bring out students who are multifaceted and well rounded personalities not just in academics but sports and co-curricular activities. She said that the coaching given for football, basket ball and swimming has helped DPS to set a certain standard in sports. She also informed that the school swimming pool had been fully air-conditioned and facilities like flood lights and electronic scoreboards would be soon available in the cricket/football ground. She also congratulated the student delegates who would be taking part in the international UN Conference of the student body to be held in the UAE.
She also congratulated the parents for giving their children the right upbringing, concern and attention that are integral not just for their academic excellence but for making them good human beings. She also thanked the parents for their unstinted support and valuable guidance.
She expressed her immense satisfaction for the dedicated efforts and involvement by the DPS teachers in their chosen profession.
Abhishek Garg of XI A was awarded the Blue Tie, highest award of honour for being a scholar for seven consecutive years.
Students who have shown their excellence in Art, Music, Dance, Reading, Quizzing, Public speaking, Organizing skills and Sports were also honoured with certificates and prizes. |
