DPS SHARJAH vs. WESTMINSTER

 DPS CLINCHES VICTORY AFTER THRILLING FINAL MINUTES - ENTERS SEMI-FINALS

 

DPS Sharjah defeated The Westminster School 32-30 after a very exciting game, to top their pool and enter the semi finals.

 

Westminster got the jump ball and made many attempts but could not score. Keerthana of DPS scored the 1st basket of the game and Sreiya made many attempts for outside shots but was unable to convert. An excellent steal and subsequent basket by Miranda put Westminster on the board. Itowards the end of the 1st quarter the DPS offence was very slow and many opportunities were missed. DPS also committed many fouls taking the other team to the line time and again.

 

At the end of the 1st quarter the score was 12-8 after Westminster took a shot but could not beat the buzzer.

 

The game moved at the same pace in the beginning of the 2nd quarter with both teams making serious offensive errors and scoring only one basket each. However as the game neared half time DPS’ offence suddenly picked up with good strategies after a time out call by coach Mr. Ali to take the score to 20-12 in favor of DPS.

 

In the 3rd quarter Miranda of Westminster kept her team in the game with excellent rebounds and assists.

 

The 4th quarter moved slowly at first but Westminster managed to slowly make up the lead thanks to efforts by Miranda and Comfort who took the score to 30-29 in favor of Westminster with 2 minutes left on the clock. Keerthana was sent to the line with 1 min to go and managed to equalize the score at 30 all. In the thrilling final minute both teams had excellent defence with many attempts to score being denied. However Keerthana of DPS managed to break through the defence and knockdown the winning basket.

 

After the game Keerthana seemed exhilarated saying, “The last minute was freaky but we managed to keep it together and win”.

 

Top Scorers for DPS were Keerthana with 12 points and Vamika with 11.

 

Miranda and Comfort of Westminster also made a valiant effort with 12 points apiece.
