DPS MUN -2007 INAUGURATED
         

The DPSMUN  2007, Model United Nations Conference, was officially inaugurated in a solemn ceremony on 9th November 2007 at the new auditorum. His Excellency Mr. Dileep Nair, Consul General of Singapore, Mr. Batavia, Director DPS Sharjah, Mr. C.N Krishna, Director I.A.H.V and Mr Jamal Al Falasi, UN Youth Representative graced this function with their august presence. The event got off to a great start with an enlightening speech by Mr. C.N Krishna , Director, International Association for Human Values who spoke regarding the widespread response to the recent 'Stand Up Against Poverty' Campaign in schools, colleges, large corporations and labour camps. The entire gathering of student delegates, teacher advisors, dignitaries and guests solemnly pledged to eliminate poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The melodious rendition of the song 'Make Me a Channel of Your Peace' set the atmosphere for the conference.

 
         

The Principal of the school Mrs. Abha Sahgal spoke about how the Global Classrooms project had helped students understand global dynamics and created a platform for the emergence of future leaders. She hoped the conference would create a spirit of camaraderie and forge long-lasting friendships.
         

         

The Chief Guest, HE Mr. Dileep Nair, Consul General of Singapore, appreciated DPS'initiative in being the trendsetter for organizing Model United Nations Conferences in the region. He commended the role played by the numerous organizations within the United Nations in tackling various critical issues, much of which is not widely publicized. He commented on the issues that the DPSMUN has chosen such as... which are not only real but also relevant to today's world. He encouraged the student community to debate on issues effectively and to reach a consensus to overcome the problems faced by mankind. He stressed on his belief in the basic spirit of mankind to persevere to make the world a better place.

         
         

Our Guest of Honor, Mr. Jamal Al Falasi, UN Youth Representative said that the UAE is a place of abundance for the people though there is also a lot of wastage of resources. He advised the youth to take initiatives, make necessary compromises and be role models for future generations.
         
The Model United Nations Conference was officially declared open by Ashutosh Dhar, Secretary General of the Conference. In an inspiring speech he said that the world was moving towards anarchy and that there is urgent need to take a closer look at different view points to the same old problems. He reminded us that the world is not merely a handful of dignitaries but that they also represent millions of common men and so the United Nations must cater to the common man. The Model United Nations forum gives an opportunity to speak on the same plane of thought that is beneficial to the common man thus avoiding conflicts.
         

         
DPSMUN 2007 has a participation of more than 300 students from over 22 schools and for the first time invited student delegates of schools from overseas.
