 Inauguration News

A voice so loud and clear… the voice of the young proclaiming that they would be more watchful, caring and protective of the earth they inhabit no matter where or which part of globe they have made their home. The earth belongs to them and whoever is hurting her somewhere is bruising her everywhere. The participants from 11 schools from Dubai and Sharjah gathered at DPS, Sharjah and expressed their solidarity to save the environment by taking part in the two day interschool competition ‘Himaya Albiya – celebrating Nature.

Dr Rajeev Lochan, Specialist Cardiologist and Head of the Department of Interventional Cardiology, Welcare Hospital, Dubai and Mrs. Lochan inaugurated the two day Eco festival on 2 May, 2007 at DPS New auditorium by pouring out handful of water on plants symbolically proclaiming that we want to protect and conserve our environment.

The competition will showcase events such as debte, quiz, painting, street play and dance exclusively based on environment themes.

Dr. Dr Rajeev Lochan who is also the President of the Indian College of Cardiology advised the participants from the various schools to be more environment conscious in the day to day choices they make such as walking to a nearby mall instead of going by car, using paper bags for plastic bags, natural food for fast food and promoting alternative sources of energy like solar and wind energy.

“Avoid fast food like chips which is cooked in reused oil. Include fresh fruits and vegetables. Exercise regularly for body fitness. Maintain a right balance by following a natural way of life”, said Dr. Rajeev Lochan.

Welcoming the guests and the participating schools, Principal Mrs. Abha Sahgal hoped that the two day competition would provide an opportunity for the young minds to express their concerns on the bruised earth as they debate and reason out, search the right answers facing the quiz master, express in colours and canvas or dramatise their emotions in street plays and dance form.

Also present on the occasion were Mr. Calefato, Headmaster Wesgreen International, Sharjah, Mrs. Rashmi Nandkeolyar, Principal DPS Duabi,  Mrs. Asma Gilani Senior Headmistress and Mrs. Mousumi Garg, Primary Headmistress.

A symbolic dance presentation showed how the four elements of the earth mourning the irreparable damage the earthlings had done to upset nature. DPS Choir performed a song in three languages chorusing in symphony the gift of nature.
