ROCKING EXPERIENCE OF ROCKSPORT TRIP TO MASHOBRA, SHIMLA | ||
Seventy six students of grades 6-10 (boys) along with the teachers
assembled at Sharjah international airport on the evening of 29th May,
Sunday to board the flight to Delhi, enthusiastically looking forward
for an exhilarating experience of Rocksports.
Upon reaching Delhi airport we were all warmly welcomed by the Rocksport
team who ushered us into two waiting buses. Thereupon we embarked on a
long journey to Mashobra where we reached on Monday night.
ACTIVITIES – DAY 1
Children were divided into two groups- BLUE EAGLES and GREEN GORILLAS
On Tuesday the 31st of May, we all woke up at around 6:30 a.m.
and
assembled in the clearing by 7 o’ clock. After having milk/tea/coffee
and biscuits children did a variety of morning exercises which were
injected with liberal doses of humour. This was followed by games and
more exercises in sylvan surroundings.
After a sumptuous breakfast, we proceeded to do Tyroline traverse
wherein one wears safety equipment and crosses a valley by using his
hands to traverse the length of the rope.
Return to camp for lunch, relaxation, followed by rappelling in which
one climbs down a steep rockface. It was indeed a very thrilling
experience!
After returning to the camp, the children played air hoopie, followed by
an appetizer of hot soup and then everyone assembled in front of the
bonfire where they sang songs to the accompaniment of the guitar.
This itinerary was followed for the remaining three days- only the
activities were different.
ACTIVITIES - DAY 2
The main activities of the day included a day trek wherein children
trekked through narrow paths in breathtakingly beautiful
natural surroundings which included deodar,
eucalyptus, blue pine, conifer trees and the like. The culmination of
the trek was a cool dip in the crystal clear water of the Gumma river
which took all the tiredness of the trek away. |

ACTIVITIES - DAY 3
The main activities of the day were zip lining and mountain biking in
which children cycled over slopes, around obstacles, trees, etc.
After lunch we proceeded on another day trek which ended in a beautiful
landscape abundant with white flowers where the boys cooked noodles
using natural fuel like dry twigs, grass, pine cones and delightfully
consumed it.
ACTIVITIES - DAY 4
The day began with a confidence building course which included walking
on a rope bridge followed by the immensely liked Hangman game. This was
followed by a school visit where our boys interacted with the local
school children, teachers and filled in a questionnaire about the local
population.
The last activity was the guerilla warfare in which the children were
divided into groups and maps were given to them to find things hidden
around the place. Using these students built survival tools like
stretchers, etc.
At the campfire, prizes were distributed to the
students in various categories.
It was with a heavy heart that we all bid adieu to the camp the next day
where the boys have learnt so much about practical living. They boarded
the bus to Delhi and caught the flight to Sharjah which landed at 6:40
a.m. |
